Health Cover Abroad

Did you know that the E111 is no longer valid?

From 1st January 2006 you will need a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to receive medical treatment when you are on holiday.

But don’t worry.  It’s quick and easy to obtain one of these cards.  And it’s FREE!

Apply Online

This is quick and easy. All you need is your name, date of birth and NI or NHS number.  Your card will be delivered within 7 days.

By Telephone

Simple call 0845 6062030 and have the details above to hand.

Your card will be delivered within 10 days.

By Post


Go to your local post office and pick up an EHIC form and pre-addressed envelope.  The post office will check your completed form for you for a small fee.

Your card will be delivered within 21 days.
 
What does the card cover?
 
The card will entitle you to reduced cost (sometimes free) treatment when you go on holiday to any EEA country and Switzerland. This includes all of these countries:-

  • Cyprus (but not Northern Cyprus)
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia

Travel Insurance
 
It is advisable to obtain travel insurance in addition to this card as travel insurance provides not only medical cover but also covers you if you have an accident on holiday, or if your luggage is lost or stolen.
