Post office Travel Money Card

The safe and easy way to carry cash abroad.

It is claimed by the Post Office that the new travel money card is a safe and easy way of taking your spending money on holiday. But what exactly is it and how does it work?

How does it work?
Basically you can load your card with the amount you need to take on holiday and then use the card at millions of outlets displaying the Visa Electron sign and also in cash machines when you are abroad.

Does it cost anything?
Yes it costs £10 to purchase the Travel Money Card.

How much money can you load on the card?
The minimum amount is £250 and after that you can top up with a minimum of £50 any time you like,

What are the advantages?
You can only spend what you have loaded on the to card and so there will be no unwelcome bills or credit card statements when you get home.
Also the card isn't linked to your bank which makes it safer.
It can help you save up your holiday spending money as once you have the card you can add money to it in installments when it suits you.

What are the disadvantages?
Costs £10.00 whereas taking your bank card is free.  Also you might not be able to use it in as many places as your normal bank card.

What if the card is lost or stolen?
You would need to call the 24 hour helpline to stop the card and get a replacement.  Provided due care has been taken your balance will also be refunded.  The replacement card can be sent to your holiday destination or your home.

How do you get one?
Head for your local post office and complete an application form which is in the back of the Post Office Travel Money Card leaflet.  This leaflet will also provide you with further information.
